Saab JAS 39 Gripen of the Swedish Air Force.
The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a Swedish fighter developed and manufactured by Saab. The name Gripen is Swedish for griffin.
The aircraft is the successor to the Saab 37 Viggen, and the variety of tactical tasks this aircraft undertakes is reflected in its type designation JAS (Jakt-Attack-Spaning = Hunting-Attack-Scouting). Like its predecessor, the Gripen is a multi-role aircraft.
The first test flight was carried out in December 1988 and the first flight of the second prototype followed in May 1990. In June 1993, the first production aircraft was delivered to the Swedish Air Force.
