A kaleidoscopy is an adaptation of a photograph of a leaf or flower, in which the original image is copied, mirrored and/or rotated, after which all the copies, transparently superimposed, form an entirely new image. The word kaleidoscopy is not (yet) in the dictionary, but I think it is indispensable to designate this category of artworks.
It is an unpredictable creative process. Sometimes a beautiful photograph results in an uninteresting kaleidoscopy, or vice versa. And often the original photograph can still be recognised in the final result, but sometimes not.
In this work, the original photo was a close-up of fallen autumn leaves covered in a layer of hoarfrost. But you don't see much of that. I mostly get associations with a starfish. And combined with the seven points of that starfish, this immediately provided a nice title for the work...
