Spirit Animal: Pegasus – Element: Air

by Jopie Bopp

Pegasus – the element of air as a spirit animal

Pegasus emerges from a sea of turquoise and sky blue. White, almost floating, he gallops straight towards us, his mighty wings spread wide. With loose, painterly brushstrokes and delicate charcoal lines, the horse blends into its surroundings: mane, body and wings dissolve into clouds, wind and light. A fine red line, like a loose thread, runs through the picture and adds a vibrant accent to the cool blue. It evokes a sense of connection, a heartbeat and a grounding presence.

Mythology
In Greek mythology, Pegasus sprang from the blood of Medusa when Perseus defeated her. The winged horse carried lightning bolts for Zeus and was close to the Muses. With a single hoofbeat on Mount Helicon, it caused the Hippocrene spring to gush forth – the source of inspiration. With its help, Bellerophon vanquished the Chimera. In the end, Pegasus was raised to the heavens as a constellation.

Symbolism
Pegasus stands for freedom, lightness and the overcoming of boundaries. As the embodiment of the element of air, he connects thought, intuition and inspiration. As a spirit animal, he reminds us to let go of what weighs us down and to trust our own instincts. He bestows the courage to set out on a new journey, creative ideas and a broad perspective on things. At the same time, the red line in the image serves as a reminder not to lose touch with one’s roots: those who fly remain connected to their hearts. This image invites us to take a deep breath, release our inner shackles and let ourselves be carried by the wind.
