About ‘Stay floating in the big sea’ by Susan Hol

There are three figures in this image. Almost in the center, a woman is floating in the salty water. Slightly to her right, a little boy sits in the water, on a sandbar probably, otherwise he could not be so far above the water. At the very front, bottom of the image, left of center, a small boy can be seen: feet in the water, wet swim trunks somewhat sagging and T-shirt on so as not to burn in the sun.
Staying afloat in the great sea is an art in itself. A literal art: staying afloat in the great sea of salty water. But also a figurative art: staying afloat in the great sea of opinions, or in the great sea of changes in your life. How do you keep your head above water? I express my own futility with this image.
Materials used: two photos I took in Egmond aan zee (NL); old photos from my file of myself and family; Lightroom; Photoshop.
