A silver birch is increasingly shaded by the morning sun that peaks just over the eaves. It is winter, the tree is bare, but the sun warms the branches and later the trunk. We think the growth in the tree is a witch's broom, wild growth caused by a fungus, but we also see birds around it so it could also be a nest.
