Sunset at the lighthouse of Rubjerg Knude. This beautiful lighthouse stands on the edge of the dunes and was in danger of falling into the sea for a long time. It is a popular place to enjoy the sunset after a long walk from the parking lot. Rubjerg Knude Fyr is a lighthouse near Lønstrup in Jutland, Denmark. The lighthouse stands on the Lønstrup Klint at a height of 60 metres above sea level. The construction work started in 1899. The lighthouse was inaugurated on 27 December 1900 and closed again on 1 August 1968. The building and surrounding outbuildings remained in use as a museum until 2002, when it was abandoned due to increasing erosion. The outbuildings were severely damaged by shifting sand pressure in 2009 and were subsequently demolished. The tower was expected to disappear into the sea in 2023, however, the 720 ton tower was moved 70 metres inland on 22 October 2019 by means of a specially built rail. The cost of 5 million Danish Kroner (0.45 million euros) was paid by the municipality of Hjørring with a government grant.
