There are moments in the Hageland that are so serene you almost forget to breathe.
This image arose at a pond where the sun was slowly setting. The water reflected gold
and orange hues, and the sky coloured softly with it.
The pond had been created by heavy floods. The whole country was in turmoil, panic and drama everywhere. People could not work, some people could not even leave their homes. The news was full of threatening reports and warnings, the radio constantly repeating what we should do.
And in that chaos, this emerged. A calm of unique beauty. An image of a flooded meadow elevated into a beautiful, giant pond deep in a non-existent nature reserve.
To me, such a scene feels like a gift:
it reminds me how nature reasserts itself every day. I stood there silently,
listening to the few daredevils who still braved the roads behind me and marvelling why I was the only one to stop.
It is an image of calm, but also of transition: the sun retreating and night making
gently making its entrance. For an interior, this work brings warmth and intimacy. It invites
to contemplation and gives a room a timeless, poetic atmosphere.
