About ‘The Awakening of the Giant’ by Lex van Doorn

This serene shot captures the majestic Mount Agung as seen from the island of Nusa Lembongan during first dusk. While the village centre in the foreground is still at rest and boats are peacefully moored in the bay, the sacred volcano towers above a soft cloud cover. The purple-blue sky of the blue hour gives the scene an almost mystical atmosphere. Biologically, the slopes of Mount Agung are a crucial ecosystem; due to the volcanic soil, the flora here is extremely diverse and acts as an important habitat for the Javan loewak, which plays a vital role in seed dispersal within tropical forests. This work combines the human scale of the coastline with the timeless power of nature, resulting in a soothing and impressive panorama for any interior.
