About "The Boy at the Water"

by Martijn Jebbink Photography

About the artwork

Some scenes just stop you in your tracks because of how quietly they unfold. This was one of them. A child crouched by the edge of the water, completely alone, focused on something in the ripples. There’s no rush in his posture, just a calm kind of curiosity. The contrast between the small figure and the towering trees behind him makes the scene feel even more intimate. The black-and-white treatment helps isolate the moment from time — no hints about when this was taken, just shapes, shadows, and light. Long shadows from the trees cut across the hill, adding depth and direction to the frame. You can almost feel the warmth of the sunlight hitting the grass, even though the tones are cool and subdued. What stands out most is the boy’s reflection — a quiet echo on the surface of the water. It’s not dramatic or staged. It’s just a fleeting, human moment, and those are always worth pausing for.
