At 1142 metres above sea level, the Brocken is the highest mountain in the Harz low mountain range, in Saxony-Anhalt and in the whole of northern Germany. It is located in the Schierke district of the town of Wernigerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt.
Before the Brocken Railway reaches the Brocken station, which at 1125 metres above sea level is the highest station of all German adhesion narrow-gauge railways, it offers a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding national park. Even in winter, a train journey in the snow-covered Upper Harz is a special experience: snow-covered fir forests, snow-covered plateaus and clear mountain air on the Brocken.
