About "The Eye of the Storm"

by Gerry van Roosmalen

About the artwork

On a stormy day along Iceland's southern coast, where the sea pounds ferociously against the rocks, Reynisdrangar often disappeared in the haze of crashing waves. The force of the ocean seemed to temporarily suffocate the rock formation, which has stood for centuries, while the sky hung heavy and menacing above the horizon. It was a struggle to even stay upright, the wind was unmistakably present, its power palpable in every breath.

But amid the chaos, there was the constant search for the perfect moment, the right interplay of the stormy waves and the magical light. Occasionally, when the waves momentarily lost rhythm and the sky opened up for a moment of clarity, the water seemed to turn into a metallic sheen, a brilliance that momentarily enveloped the rocks in a mysterious light. It was as if nature held its breath, and in that brief moment, the eye of the storm, the rocks came alive-just for a second-and captured the elusive magic so characteristic of this iconic place.
