The Sleipnir, the largest crane ship in the world. The Sleipnir is a semi-submersible crane ship by Heerema Marine Contractors that was delivered in 2019 by Sembcorp in Singapore. The name is derived from the eight-legged horse Sleipnir from Nordic mythology. The design consists of two parallel pontoons with four columns each containing the working deck. The Sleipnir has two cranes from Huisman Equipment, each with a lifting capacity of 10,000 tonnes and a total lifting capacity of 18,000 tonnes, making it the largest crane vessel in the world. For a long time, this title was reserved for sister ship the Thialf. The Sleipnir is equipped with a dynamic positioning system with eight rudder propellers of 5.5 MW each. It also features an anchor system with twelve anchor winches. Twelve generators of 8 MW power the vessel and these run on both Marine Gas Oil and Liquid Natural Gas.
