Before I went to Canada I knew these pictures of course, beautiful blue and green water among the mountains and forests of Canada. But when I was actually there I only realised 'it's really that blue, not photoshop'.
Emerald lake gets its name from the beautiful colour of the water. It is meltwater from the mountains. The grit from the rock walls that comes with the water, combined with light from the sun, gives the lakes their beautiful blue colour.
Emerald Lake, located in Yoho National Park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains in British Columbia, is famous for its turquoise-coloured water, caused by fine glacial sediment. Surrounded by mountain peaks such as Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain, the lake offers spectacular scenery. It is a popular destination for activities such as hiking, canoeing, fishing and winter sports. On the lake shore is the historic Emerald Lake Lodge, which offers comfortable accommodation and various facilities. The lake is easily accessible, about a 20-minute drive from the town of Field and just over an hour from Lake Louise in Banff National Park.
