The distance draws nearer

by Kopffarben

A longing for change hangs in the air. Just as in a lull on the high seas, everything remains motionless. Time drags on whilst one’s gaze wanders into the distance. What once seemed out of reach is drawing nearer. Hope is directed towards what might lie beyond the familiar horizon.

Faces and fragmented body forms in black, white, turquoise and orange overlap against a light, blue-violet background. The intertwined figures remain in a still, almost floating constellation.

The original measures 30x40cm; ink and acrylic on paper

In my painting, I explore self-perception and transformation. I am interested in those moments when familiar notions of ourselves are shaken and new possibilities emerge, without it yet being clear where they will lead.
My figures dissolve, change shape and come together again in unexpected ways. Lines and bodily forms make inner movements visible: circling thoughts, uncertainty and the search for one’s own self.
I wish to capture states of transition in which contradictions are allowed to coexist and change does not need a fixed direction. I am interested in what can emerge when we do not have to hold on to everything or explain it immediately.
