This oxbow lake, which was used as a fishing pond a long time ago, has become a deserted place over the course of time as it has not been managed. The most you'll meet here is a few walkers, anglers or strange photographers like me. Otherwise, this enchanted terrain undisputedly belongs to the beaver, which has multiplied massively in recent decades and settled here. It was actually almost extinct here in Bavaria around seventy years ago, and would have remained so if a large-scale reintroduction programme had not ensured its return to our floodplain forests.
This oxbow lake, i.e. a river course that was cut off decades ago when it was straightened, is definitely a very mystical place, which is easy to recognise in this photo. It not only conveys this atmosphere on gloomy, overcast foggy days, but also retains it on bright, sun-drenched days.
