Old watercourses are former river courses that were cut off when the river was straightened. These straightenings were usually carried out to facilitate navigation, in a few cases also to gain land. The fact that this intervention in nature, which had been practised for several centuries, was not without consequences can still be seen today in the countless floods in the areas in question, where the river regularly reclaims its former territory.
Otherwise, we are dealing with a relatively intact nature in these oxbow lakes, a nature that is left in peace here, in a designated nature reserve, due to low agricultural utilisation.
For me, this paradise proves to be just the same for my landscape photos, which I mainly take in the morning mist, which often occurs here due to the proximity of the river. In addition, there is an abundance of natural landscape motifs, as land consolidation has not caused so much havoc here and has left much of the hedgerow landscape that once prevailed here.
