It's rife with mythological stories, people turning into...something else. Take the story of the nymph Daphne, who was pursued by the god Apollo. In her fear, she begged the other gods for help. The gods saved her from Apollo...by turning her into a tree.
As a child, I did not know this myth. But still, I drew trees very often. And those trees very often turned into women. In my teens, I got hold of a book of woodcuts by Gustave Doré. Inside were beautiful plates teeming with tree people. I used them as inspiration. Now I still look at trees and see arms and fingers in the twisting branches. If I sketch just anything, it is often a tree. And sometimes that tree does have a very human appearance... This is a pen and ink drawing that I digitally photographed and edited.
Welcome to my shop! Nice of you to take a look.
I call myself a sculpture hunter. There can be a beautiful statue hidden everywhere. Also just in a bus shelter, under your shoes or in your own living room. I capture these images in photos, or use them..
