Just before the sun rises the sky is full of colours. The most beautiful shades can be seen in the sky then. Because the air was very cold there was little movement. This picture was taken on the bank of the river Maas near Cuijk, Noord-Brabant. This area is also known as the Maasheggen. Characteristic for the Meuse hedges is that the landscape is divided into a large number of small plots separated by hawthorn and blackthorn hedges. The Maasheggen are located in Brabant in the forelands of the river Maas near the villages Vierlingsbeek, Boxmeer and Oeffelt. The ancient landscape is unique in Western Europe and the Maasheggen form a special ecosystem where a number of rare plant and animal species occur.
