Pieter Ringoot made hundreds of sketches on various materials. He also drew dozens of sketchbooks full. Pen and ink were his favourite materials for making the sketches and studies. Some sketches were later also coloured in with watercolour.
The illustrations were often intended to master the composition of one of his many oil paintings. For some paintings, he made dozens of preliminary studies. But also simply as an exercise to better master drawing and the perception of a subject in general.
Now, 48 years later, as grandson and custodian of the works, I have scanned and digitally retouched several sketches. Some are now available through this channel as prints on various materials. This way, everyone can enjoy the works and Pieter Ringoot's legacy lives on.
