Waterton Lakes National Park is one of Canada's lesser-known parks. Unjustly so, I think; the views are breathtaking and all of Canada's wildlife can be found here. I took this photo on the way back from the park, I had to stop to take this picture. It is the Prince of Wales hotel built in 1927. In 2017, much of the park burned down, and the hotel was saved in the nick of time. Natural fires are common in Canada and America and sometimes the smoke is visible for hundreds of kilometres. That makes the picture beautiful but also a bit gloomy, the hotel has been saved but the smoke remains.
Waterton Lakes National Park, located in southwestern Alberta, Canada, is a breathtaking nature reserve known for its spectacular scenery, rich biodiversity and numerous recreational opportunities. Established in 1895, this park, together with the neighbouring Glacier National Park in the United States, forms the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Waterton's landscape is dominated by the imposing Rocky Mountains and the crystal-clear waters of the Waterton Lakes.
The park is home to an impressive variety of flora and fauna, including more than a thousand plant species and a wide range of animals such as grizzly bears, moose and mountain goats. This biodiversity makes Waterton a paradise for nature lovers and wildlife photographers. Visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing and boating, with trails ranging from easy hikes to challenging mountain treks such as the famous Crypt Lake Trail.
