Weimar is a city in the German state of Thuringia. It is known for the era of Weimar Classicism, a humanist cultural movement. The Goethe and Schiller Monument in front of the German National Theatre commemorates the two poets who lived in the city. Goethe's residence, a baroque-style building, is now home to the Goethe National Museum. The Schiller Museum is located next to Schiller's house. The Bauhaus Museum displays works by the architect Walter Gropius.
Together with the Herder House and Garden and the neighbouring Old Grammar School, the Herder Church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site "Classical Weimar". The origins of the town church of St Peter and Paul date back to the time of the town's foundation. Martin Luther preached here during the Reformation. The church got its current interior appearance after the Second World War, during which it was badly damaged.
