Tenerife's northern coast consists of rugged steep mountain sides. From Garachico, there is a hiking trail, along a narrow path with quite a few hairpin bends, leading up to the top. I had resolved to climb up here to photograph the view. It was hot, and the walk went over black lava rocks and past arid pines. In this rough and large-scale landscape, I suddenly saw these young fresh-green ferns emerging. They looked vulnerable in the arid surroundings. But stubborn as they are, they blossomed together towards the light. I tried to capture that contrast with their surroundings in this photo. It gives a sense of a fresh start, a new beginning, stubborn and strong together.
