Kolgrafafjörður on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, West Iceland, has become popular with tourists since the massive death of herring in 2012 and 2013.
It is estimated that 50,000 tonnes of herring died in the fjord in December 2012 and February 2013. The fish are believed to have died as a result of lack of oxygen in the fjord due to a landfill site and a bridge built over the fjord in December 2004.
The area used to be popular because of Mount Kirkjufell in nearby Grundarfjörður, but now the nature of the area - including orcas, dolphins, seals and almost 40 species of birds - is the main attraction of the fjord.
The subjects I look for are nature, mostly landscapes, but also animals and plants can come in front of the lens. Especially dramatic images appeal to me. Sometimes I also look for more graphic and abstract images. For me it's all about just making the images that make.. Read more…
