Paul Cézanne on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Peter Balan

Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) was a significant French painter regarded as a precursor to modern art, exerting a profound influence on the development of Cubism. Born in Aix-en-Provence, France, Cézanne began as a self-taught artist before formally studying art in Paris. He stands as a crucial transitional figure between the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements. Cézanne developed a distinctive style that departed from prevailing artistic conventions of his time. He was known for his thick, swirling brushstrokes and the use of color in geometric shapes, giving his works a unique dimension. His paintings often focused on still lifes, landscapes, and portraits. Particularly renowned are Cézanne's numerous paintings of Mont Sainte-Victoire, a mountain near Aix-en-Provence, which he depicted repeatedly, experimenting with various artistic techniques. Cézanne's work helped break traditional boundaries of perspective and form, influencing artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in the development of Cubism. Despite initial rejection of his works, Paul Cézanne posthumously gained recognition as one of the most important artists of the 19th century.
