Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831-1889) was an influential Japanese artist of the 19th century, renowned for his diverse talents in painting, calligraphy, and caricature. His unconventional and often humorous style expressed both traditional and contemporary themes, making a significant contribution to Japanese art history. Kyōsai is often regarded as one of the last significant artists of the Edo period and a precursor to modern Japanese art.
