Under a brilliant blue, cloudless sky, a digital artwork unfolds in which nostalgia and homage merge. Central to the composition is the facade of "Butcher's shop Van den Berg", beautifully rendered in a stylised, almost timeless aesthetic. The building, once owned by the artist's grandfather and located at Voorstraat 64, bears the traces of both past and present in this interpretation. Although the building now houses student union UMTC, the performance evokes subtle memories of its original function.
The shop window is the visual focal point. Here, classic elements of a butcher's shop are carefully rendered: ornate hand-painted lettering on the glass. Behind the window, a pair of carefully stylised hams and sausages hang symbolically, as a reference to the craft and tradition of the butcher's trade. Everything looks pristine and ordered, as if time has stood still for a while.
The street is empty and serene, devoid of people, leaving the focus entirely on the building and its story. The sunlight casts warm reflections on the façade, evoking a sense of comfort and connection. With this work, the artist not only honours his family history, but also the idea of continuity: how places and memories take on new meanings as they change. The result is an understated, loving monument in pixels, inviting the viewer to dwell on what remains, even when everything seems to be decaying.
