The Vought F4U Corsair is an American fighter aircraft that served mainly in World War II and the Korean War and was designed and built by Chance Vought. During World War II, the aircraft was also built under licence by Goodyear, whose Corsairs were designated FG, and Brewster, designated F3A.
Designed for use from aircraft carriers, the Corsair entered service with the U.S. Navy in large numbers in late 1944 and early 1945. It quickly became one of the most successful carrier-based fighter-bombers of World War II.
