Positano, with its romantic alleyways, colourful houses, cafés and shops as well as the breathtaking Spiaggia, the beach of Positano, is probably the most beautiful place on the Amalfi Coast. The former fishing village in the province of Salerno in Campania is now a popular holiday destination with cultural sights, adventures and delicious Italian cuisine. Positano is known for its colourful houses built in steps on the steep slopes of the mountains - the coast near Positano for its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear water.
The Amalfi Coast, known as the Costiera amalfitana or Costa d'Amalfi in Italian, is located on the west coast of Italy around 40 kilometres south of Naples. The Amalfi Coast is a good 40 kilometres of rugged and jagged coastline on the Italian Gulf of Salerno in the south of the Sorrento Peninsula. The most famous towns on the Amalfi Coast are Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. The stretch of coast between Positano and Vietri sul Mare has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
