Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.

About ‘An evening at the Alte Pforzheimer Hütte’ by Marcel Hechler

Right next to the Sesvenna Hut, where I spent the night, stands the Alte Pforzheimer Hut – just a few metres from the small mountain lake, high up in the Vinschgau Valley close to the Swiss border.

From the lakeshore, the view stretches far out into the open valley. Behind the narrow path and the old wooden fence, the land drops away, and in the distance the mountain ranges recede in increasingly pale shades of blue until they almost merge with the sky. Only from here can you see just how exposed this hut is on the edge of the ridge.

I spent three days up here. I hadn’t realised beforehand that I would be standing right in front of a piece of Pforzheim’s local heritage – until the First World War, the hut belonged to the Pforzheim section of the Alpine Club, and I myself live nearby.

That evening, the light lay cool and soft over everything; only the clouds still held a remnant of warmth. For me, the image conveys the tranquillity of the heights and a sense of vastness. It fits perfectly where you want to look far into the distance – above the sofa, in the bedroom or in a room where you can take a deep breath.
