About ‘Bruchsal Palace in the stormlight’ by Marcel Hechler

On that April evening, I had actually expected rain. All day long, the sky over Bruchsal had been grey and unsettled — until, just before sunset, the sun broke through the cloud cover once more.

For a few minutes, the whole castle was bathed in warm light: the red of the façade, the gold above the entrance, the long rows of bright windows. Behind it, the sky remained almost black. It was precisely this contrast that drew me to the spot — warm stone against a threatening storm.

The façade is reflected calmly and clearly in the water basin in front; to the right, the tower of the castle church rises into the deep blue.

The image thrives on this contrast. It brings both tranquillity and tension to a room and is perfect for walls that could do with a bit of character — above the sofa, in the hallway or in a study with a classic touch.
