Aviation history: Super Marine Spitfire Mark IX.
Old military registration: 3W-17.
Civilian registration: PH-OUQ
This Supermarine Mark IX Spitfire of the Royal Air Force Historical Flight was built in 1943 and participated during D-day, among other things.
In 1946, the 322 Fighter Aircraft Division was formed which in 1947 was renamed the 322 squadron where this aircraft flew with registration H-25.
After returning from Indonesia, the 322 became active as a monthly flight squadron in 1951. A monthly flight squadron was a squadron of the Royal Air Force whose task was to keep pilots in reserve and flight-worthy, also known as monthly flights or reserve capacity. During this period, the H registration was replaced by the squadron code of the 322 (3W) followed by a code, in the case of this aircraft 3W-17.
In 1953, the military career of this legendary aircraft came to a definite end. Most of the Spitfires were lost through looting, scrapping, bought up by souvenir hunters and scrap dealers, or fired up for the purpose of fire drills.
