The Victory Column on the Great Star in the Great Tiergarten is one of the most important sights of Berlin and the most important national monuments of Germany.
The 67 meter high gilded column with viewing platform, commemorates the victory in the German-Danish War.
Built from 1864 to 1873 by Heinrich Strack on Königsplatz to commemorate the Wars of Unification, it was moved to its current location from 1938 to 1939 along with the monuments to Bismarck, Roon and Moltke. The crowning Victoria by Friedrich Drake is popularly called "Goldelse" in Berlin.
