About "Black and white tiles on the Silk Road | Uzbekistan"

About the artwork

Tiles on a wall of a building in the city of Buchara in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is an old Soviet republic and is located in Central Asia and is surrounded by other Stan countries, such as Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

In Uzbekistan you will find many mosques and other religious buildings that feature walls full of tiles printed with all kinds of shapes and patterns and are an important part of the architecture. Especially in the cities of Buchara and Samarkand. These cities are on the ancient Silk Road between the Middle East and China. The buildings are often made of clay or bricks and feature colorful tiles.

This photo was taken in black and white to bring more attention to the white lines, shapes and the repetition of the pattern in the tiles.

This part of the world does not get very many tourists, yet it is a very interesting region with many historical sites and beautiful landscapes.
