The Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) is a very rare subspecies of the tiger. The Siberian tiger is also known as the Amur tiger. The Siberian tiger has no fixed mating period and keeps itself alive by eating other mammals, sometimes as much as twice as big as the tiger itself. It is the largest of the felines. The animal is rare in the wild, in 2011 the population was estimated at about 500 specimens. By far the most pictures of this species were taken in an animal park, just like this one.
