This unusual, layered ecoprint is made with a chestnut leaf, among other things. At the base is peach herb and at the top are floating blackberries. In this technique, I let the plant, in a steam bath, make an imprint on fabric or paper. In this case on a soft cotton flannel, which is also why the image is so beautifully diffuse. When I made this print, it was really a surprise!
I chose sturdy plants that I had found in the Rotterdam harbour, close to m'n studio. A rugged location where the plants have to endure strong winds. Working with the natural pigment madder, I expected a red colour, but the plants' reaction in the steam bath turned it into a subtle violet.
Actually much nicer. The lanceolate leaves of the peach herb and the large chestnut leaf make a powerful yet poetic image. Perfect for bringing nature into your interior like this.
