The steep vertical rocks are particularly striking because of the bright yellow lichens growing on them. The stone walls here go straight down into the sea. An unusual situation. On top of the precipice is a stretch of mixed and wild nature. A footpath runs through that, so you can get close to the edge. It is the coast that belongs to the North York Moors National Park. The yellow moss, called yolk moss or stone lichen, grows preferentially on stony ground under certain physical conditions and can withstand salt well. So here by the sea is not illogical. There also seem to be seagulls flying around. These also provide suitable feeding grounds.
I find the colours in this scene attractive and provide a nice contrast, even though the weather is not sunny. The photo was taken in July. It is also a beautiful nature photo.
This photo was originally taken on slide roll film in 2004 and later scanned and refined. It is a timeless image.
