The impala is one of the most common antelope species in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a slender, medium sized antelope with a long neck. The coat is reddish brown or yellowish brown, lighter on the shoulders, neck and head. Only the male wears horns. These horns are slender, lyre-shaped and heavily ringed, and can be over ninety centimeters long. Females, who do not have horns, are smaller than males.
