This abstract, surreal photograph shows a fascinating transformation in which the third dimension is transferred into the second through the use of artificial reflectors. What was originally three-dimensional loses its spatial depth through the reflection and becomes a flat, almost graphic-like representation. Forms and structures that had depth and volume in their natural surroundings now appear alienated and removed. They appear frozen in another dimension, their spatial presence distorted and dissolved by the reflection.
The picture surface itself becomes an almost flickering cosmos of lines, shadows and reflections of light that intermingle and remain in a surreal, dreamlike state. The impression is created as if things have lost their usual form and exist in a new, two-dimensional reality. The transition from 3D to 2D is not only technical but also visual, forcing the viewer to question the limits of perception and the illusion of reality.
The colour scheme may remain reduced or in soft, grey tones, which underlines the surreal character and lends the image an almost melancholy atmosphere. The mirroring makes the shapes appear in unexpected combinations and perspectives, so that the picture almost looks like an abstracted dream or vision in which time and space lose their usual order.
