The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a member of the feline family. The jaguar can be found in Central America and a large part of South America. It resembles the leopard superficially, but is heavier built and has a stronger rosette pattern. The jaguar is the largest and strongest cat in the Americas. It is a solidly built and powerful animal with a broad head and strong jaws. The legs are relatively short, but very strong. The tail provides balance when jumping. Jaguars can live to be 12 to 15 years old in the wild, in captivity they can live to be a few years older.
