The Boeing 747-400 is the upgraded version of the Boeing 747-300. The first test flight took place on 29 April 1988, the first commercial flight was on 9 February 1989, operated by Northwest Airlines. It is the best-selling version of the Boeing 747. A total of 693 of them were built; only 81 of the 747-300 were sold.
KLM used the 747-400 (fully equipped to carry passengers) and 747-400M (part passenger, part cargo).
In early 2018, this aircraft was withdrawn from service by KLM and flown to the former Twente airbase where it was decommissioned by the company AELS.
