In Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy, stands this male nude, triumphant and rising high above the crowd. He does not stand there alone. The square is full of male nudes, like a veritable gallery of statues. The statues together seem to represent the history of Florence.
In front, at the bottom of this work, a woman walks, not giving the muscular man on his pedestal a glance. The man on the left behind her, on the other hand, gazes tense upward. In this work ancient history, mythical stories, world-famous architecture and tidal waves of modern tourists come together.
