Early morning at a Riad (also known as Ryad) in Marrakesh, Morocco and the pool looks inviting doesn't it? But so do the empty sun beds lining the pool side in full sunshine.
Riads are a traditional type of Moroccan and Andalusi courtyard or garden, often with a fountain, created in the interior of a mansion or palace. These days, the term Riad refers to a guest house or hotel that were often created from these former mansions. Here you can see there is a shady walk around the outside of the building itself, before the area opens up to the pool area.
The Riad is often an oasis of calm and luxury prior to an expedition out to explore the sights and sounds of Marrakesh - which can be quite an assault on the senses I have to say. Similarly, after a busy, hot, dusty day of sightseeing, the return to the relative calm and quiet of the Riad is very welcome. Not to mention a sleep on one of those sun loungers.
