At the southern tip of Bonaire, where the wind never seems to sleep, stands the Willemstoren, the island's oldest lighthouse. Built in 1837, when ships still depended entirely on their compass and stars, this brick-red beacon became their safe guide. The funny thing is: the builders didn't know that the tower would stand out so brightly against the white salt and blue water that it stood out just as much during the day as at night with its light!
