The crossing, also known as Town Bridge, just after sunset. The Crossing is neiuwste connection to the city of Nijmegen on rievier Waal. The afterglow of the just perished sun creates a beautiful backdrop against which the bridge stands.
The name herr inert crossing the Waal crossing in 1944 by personnel of the US Army 504th Infantry Regiment of the 82d Airborne Brigade.
This name was adopted officially in June 2009 by the city council. At the opening two veterans from World War II were present, as well as relatives of those killed in action 48 soldiers.
As a tribute to these men, the bridge is equipped with 48 pairs of light towers after switching on the city lights couple after couple from south (Nijmegen) to north (Lent) enter, at the pace of a slow march. Since October 19, 2014 is running as a daily homage, every evening at sunset one or more so-called veterans. Sunset March on the bridge during the lighting of the 48 lights.
