The portrait in inspired by Zyta Sus; In 1942, Zyta Sus became one of the hundreds of thousands of children kidnapped by the Nazi regime. After being deemed "desirable," Zyta was given away to a new family with a new identity. After the war, she was taken to an orphanage. Zyta never found the whereabouts of her real family.
A black butterfly is placed over her face. The butterfly is somewhat translucent so the girl's face does remain completely visible. The butterfly is an io moth, a night peacock.
