About ‘Tranquillity on Lake Concordia’ by Marcel Hechler

On this grey December day, Lake Concordia was almost deserted. I was standing on the pebble beach when my gaze fell upon the long jetty: a man in an orange jacket, his dog beside him, both standing very still, facing the water.

This single splash of colour in a landscape of grey and blue immediately captivated me. As the clouds gathered over the Harz foothills, I left the camera shutter open for a long time, until the water became soft and silky and a silvery band of light stretched all the way to the shore.

For me, the image speaks of the tranquillity one finds on a winter’s day by the lake — a moment of pause, free from the hustle and bustle. Hanging on the wall, it brings precisely this feeling into the room: understated, expansive and still. It fits well in a living room or bedroom with cool, clear colours and in any interior style that favours a calm and natural aesthetic.
