Graceful palm trees and lush tropical greenery line the shores of the Florida Keys in the southeastern United States. I took this shot at Bahia Honda State Park, famous for miles of sandy beaches and as the site of the Overseas Highway and historic Seven Mile Bridge (of which you can catch a glimpse in the bottom right quadrant of the image). The summer heat and humidity in Florida are stifling, but the waters of the Florida Straits provide relief and refreshment. Afternoon storms occur frequently during summer, and I am fascinated by how quickly they can develop, move in, and sometimes suddenly veer off or dissipate. I had a hotel job on Marathon Key the season I took this photo, and have good memories of the long day I spent relaxing in this beautiful location.
