About ‘Where the waters rise’ by Sander Poppe

This photograph was taken on a stormy morning on the Westerschelde near Vlissingen, on the island of Walcheren in Zeeland. The wind was blowing strongly at force seven and the sea was constantly in motion. As the morning progressed, the light slowly shifted from soft and diffuse to brighter and more intense.

Along the wooden jetty, a location that has featured in my work for years, I watched as a wave built up against the structure. Not chaotic splashing water, but rather a fluid, almost purposeful movement. The moment when the power of the sea becomes visible in form and rhythm. That was the moment this photograph was taken: where the waters rise.

This shot forms the conclusion of a series of images from the same morning, in which silence, movement and power follow one another. It is the moment when everything comes together — the weather, the light and the place.

With that image on the memory card, I returned home, feeling satisfied and knowing that the morning had revealed itself in a special way.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
