This is a lesser black-backed gull, in my opinion. I found this bird on top of a piling in the harbour of the Texel harbour town of Oudeschild. A piling is a heavy pole or structure where vessels can be anchored. This black-backed gull is a young one, with lots of brown and white. This one was standing on the piling and apparently feeling safe from all those people, because I was able to get closer and closer for a photo.
