Approximately half an hour before the sun rises, there are often beautiful colours to be seen in the sky. These colours are enhanced by the cold morning and the layer of fog that forms above the river Meuse. The Land of Cuijk is a former seigniory located in what is now the northeastern part of the province of Noord-Brabant. The seigniory was bordered by the Meuse and the Peel. The land of Cuijk consisted of two areas that were separated from each other by the seigniory of Boxmeer. There are many meadows along the Meuse, which have been surrounded by hedges for centuries: hawthorn hedges that bloom in May. Due to their unique character, they are a cultural heritage. In addition to the Meuse hedges, Cuijk's country also has a lot of heathland, lakes and forests. From these Meuse hedges you have a beautiful view of the land of Cuijk. Walking along the Meuse is good. The Meuse is a 950 km long river in Western Europe. The Meuse originates in France and then flows through Belgium and the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, the Meuse is the southernmost of the major rivers and flows into the North Sea in the Dutch river delta. From Geijsteren, the Meuse will form the border with Noord-Brabant. At Boxmeer two more bends of the Meuse will be straightened; after that at Cuijk she makes a very wide bend to the left towards the west. From Mook it is not Limburg, but Gelderland on the right bank.
